Praxis is defined by the Bryn Mawr website as an “experiential, community-based learning program that integrates theory and practice through student engagement in active, relevant fieldwork that is integrated into academic courses”.
The Praxis I participated in for the Spring 2019 semester was titled “Promoting Change Thru Service”. This course specifically sought to have students who had an internship or volunteering placement with a local health organization or community. It is taught by Professor James Martin of the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. The cohort used a biopsychosocial-spiritual matrix as well as the theory of change to bring about change and foster resilience in our community settings.
