As a volunteer at Project Safe I have gotten the opportunity to listen to sex-workers and individuals with substance-use disorders. I hope for this fieldwork experience to further develop my communication skills as I learn how to support the people at my placement. As someone who has no experience in sex-work or drug-use my presence at my placement is a complicated one, but one of my learning objectives has to do with successfully engaging with people who have different lived experiences, and doing so in a way that gives them agency.
